JTSX Open Hoppers

JTSX is one of the reporting marks for Joseph Transportation, formerly the The David J. Joseph Company.

JTSX 300000-300105

These former CSDU (Colorado Springs Department of Utilities) cars spent their first twenty years hauling coal in Colorado. From late 2000 to early 2007, they hauled hauled Appalachian coal on Norfolk Southern, and carry JTSX reporting marks. There where 103 cars in the series JTSX 300000-300105, with 300026, 300038 and 300089 missing. The cars were used in dedicated service between a mine near Norton, VA and a power plant in Clover, VA (near South Boston).

Unfortunately, the overhead view isn't quite up to par, but it's the only shot I have showing the inside of these Ortner cars.

This partial series of cars is some of the first new aluminum railcars built at the East End Shops in Roanoke by FreightCar America.

Brand new JTSX 900996 stored before delivery in the yard at Roanoke, VA on 5 June 2005. BLT 06-05. The two detail photos show some inside supports on the hopper bays, and the B end details. Note the yellow stripes on the top of the rotary coupler end of the car below it.
