Grand Trunk Western 60 Foot Box Cars

Raised Height Cars

These cars were originally 'standard' heights cars, and were rebuilt by Grand Trunk Western into excess height cars. Not only were the rebuilds based on three different sets of original cars, the rebuild process seems to have changed during the process. Lower number cars have only one 'square' horizontal reinforcing rib added on the top of the ends, while higher numbered cars such as 384184 have two. Also note the different end patterns left over from the original cars.

Poor quality pictures of raised height cars

These pictures are not-quite in focus... It was nearing dusk on a snowy winter day, and I hit the limit of how effectively my digital camera could focus. (Either that, or I was too cold to hold a camera steady...) These are presented as-is to further demonstrate the differences between cars in the GTW 384000-384199 number series. All three pictures were taken 17 December 2000 at Ingleside, WV.
