Walton is where the line from Roanoke meets the New River. The former N&W lines to Bluefield and Bristol split, with the line to Bluefield heading downsteam (north) along the New River, and the Briston line heading upstream to Plum Creek and Radford. The two diverging routes are directly connected by the third leg of a wye.
