There is a quiet little grade crossing at Ripplemead, nearly in the shadow of the US 460 bridge which crosses high above the tracks and the river. Maintenace of Way equipment is sometimes parked on a short siding here.

In April 2004, Train 18M was powered by a UP SD70M, an ex-Southern high hood SD40-2, and an ex-UP SD50 relettered for NREX.

A repainted former Conrail C40-8W heads up a consist than includes a Union Pacific SD70M on train 185 after a December 2003 snowstorm. This train was also photographed at Narrows. An odd effect of thermodynamics has caused snow to clump around the connectors that hold the segments jointed rail together on the siding.

Yet another dash-9 brings train 18M east in April 2003, with the quarry at Klotz across the river proving a dramatic background.

An empty coal train rounds the curve under the US 460 bridge and passes a old N&W depressed center flat still in steam-era lettering in August 2002. The houses above the train in the first picture are on a ridge on the other side of the river.
