Walton (East) PEPPER (West) Cowan
At milepost N304 near Peppper, the rails pass under VA Rte 114. From Walton to Pembroke, the line is mostly single-track. The lone exception is a 2.4 mile stretch of double track (really just a lengthy passing siding) between Cowan and Belspring.

About a mile west of Rte 114, the tracks cross the New River on a curved bridge that leads directly into Pepper Tunnel.
