Friendship Road (East) MONTGOMERY (West) Cambria
Visible from Interstate 81, the twin tunnels at Montgomery are one of the signature landmarks of the Christiansburg district. The eastern portals are inaccessible without tresspassing, but the western side is safely viewed from the shoulder of Den Hill Road.

The floors of both tunnels have been lowered for clearance to allow autoracks, but only the tunnel on main 2 has been raised to allow clearance for double stack traffic.

Circus Train
The Circus Train makes its only appearance of the year, on a rainy 17th of April 2006.
It was also photographed at Green Hill.

Within the same hour, three consecutive trains pass through the tunnels on a busy Sunday afternoon in September 2004. The same BNSF-lead consist was photograpched at Cambria eight days later.

In May 2004, UP 2002 and sibling SD70M UP 4016 have train 147 well in hand in this classic photo angle on the tunnels.
This train was also photographed at Singer, Green Hill, Shawsville and Cambria.

Train 16T was lead by a BNSF unit on the last Saturday of April 2003, seen here meeting westbound train 185 working uphill. Later that day, the lead unit of train 148 pretends to be a steam locomotive as it waits for a couple of westbound trains to clear.

BNSF 5301
A BNSF 'pumpkin', a UP 'flags, flares and wings' SD70M, and a 'catfish' make for an interesting power trio on train 16T in April 2003. This colorful consist is complemented by the white and voilet spring trees and a string of flats loaded with light green pipe, brightening up an otherwise drab low-sunlight shot. Thanks are due to Chris Starnes for the heads-up on this oddball consist.
