Glen Lyn is best known for the massive Virginian trestle which once stood here. This trestle was removed in 1971 as part of a project between the N&W and the Army Corps of Engineers to widen US 460 to four lanes. The concrete piers that still stand in the river today were the tallest concrete structures in the world when they were cast in 1908. An AEP coal fueled power plant here is served by NS as well.

A pair of closer photos of the locomotive are on the APCO page of Joes Shaw's Railroad Images website.
