North Fork (East) ELLETT (West) Yellow Sulphur
Ellett is the next grade crossing east of Yellow Sulphur, with a set of signals near the road. The old Virginian Railway passenger station from Ellett, little more than a small shelter, is on display at the Virigina Musuem of Transportation in Roanoke.

Since it is following a pair of hopper trains up the hill, train 17M eases around the curve prepared to stop at the 273.5 signal. Fortunately the signal shows an approach indication, so the engineer doesn't have to stop with nearly 9500 feet of train hanging behind on a 1.4% grade. Just keeping it moving on the wet rail would be an impossible chore without the magic of modern wheelslip technology. A derailment blocking both Christiansburg District mains has caused an unusual detour over the Whitethorne District for a parade of westbound of trains.

Lusters Gate Road narrows to a single lane to pass under the tracks at New Ellett. In February 2006, train 894 eases down the steepest part of the grade in the snow.

Train 840 approaches the Ellett Road grade crossing in May 2003.
