Pepper (East) COWAN (West) Dry Branch
After crossing the river from Pepper, the track tunnels through a hill that created a horse shoe bend of the New River. The junction on the far side of the tunnel is called Cowan. There is an out of service spur into the Radford Army Ammunition Plant here as well.

Train 274
Lead by a BNSF widecab, a lengthy train 274 passes under the Cowan signals on the main track in March 2005. The foreground spur into the arsenal diverges from the main two track.
